Entrepreneur, tax consultant, philanthropist and community leader, Mrs. Joy Samuel, has pledged to intensify her efforts to promote ethical leadership, youth empowerment and community development following her induction as a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management and Leadership (CIML), USA, Nigerian Chapter.
Samuel was honoured with the prestigious Fellowship in recognition of her professional achievements, leadership qualities and contributions to humanitarian and community development.
The recognition further underscores her commitment to professional excellence, responsible leadership and service to humanity, particularly her efforts to support vulnerable people and promote inclusive development in her community.
Speaking shortly after the induction, Samuel described the Fellowship as a significant milestone in her leadership journey, saying it would motivate her to expand her service to society and inspire others to embrace responsible and impactful leadership.
She expressed gratitude to God for the recognition and commended CIML for creating a platform capable of encouraging professionals to improve their leadership skills while using their positions to make a positive difference in society.
According to her, true leadership goes beyond occupying positions of authority, stressing that leaders must translate their responsibilities into meaningful interventions that improve the lives of those around them.
“I see it as an opportunity to encourage us to be better leaders, and not only being better leaders, how can we as leaders affect our society and our community? So, this leadership must be extended to people around us,” she said.
Samuel noted that she had been involved in leadership and humanitarian activities before her induction, but added that the Fellowship had strengthened her resolve to do more and extend her reach to more people through service, mentorship and empowerment.
“It was my mission before then. I have been a leader, so it is just to do more. I have just been motivated to do more and reach out to as many as I can,” she said.
She identified youth empowerment and mentorship as areas that require greater attention, expressing concern about the challenges confronting young Nigerians and the negative influences that could push them towards destructive choices.
Samuel urged leaders to take greater responsibility for guiding young people, particularly those facing difficult circumstances, by providing them with encouragement, mentorship and positive alternatives.
“Presently, you see that our youths are being lured into so many things. It is just left for us to let them know that we, as leaders, have journeyed through where they are. We have passed through that route, so it is our responsibility to let them know,” she said.
She also encouraged young Nigerians facing challenges not to regard negative or destructive paths as their only options, urging them to remain positive, purposeful and intentional about building a better future.
As part of the induction ceremony, Samuel took the professional oath, pledging to uphold the highest standards of integrity, accountability and professionalism in the discharge of her responsibilities.
She committed herself to performing her duties faithfully, managing resources honestly and complying with the rules and regulations governing her professional responsibilities.
The new CIML Fellow also pledged to shun corrupt practices and any conduct capable of bringing the management and leadership profession into disrepute, reaffirming her commitment to using her leadership position to serve humanity and contribute meaningfully to society.
