The Northern Senators Forum has commiserated with the Governor of Taraba State, residents of the state and families who lost loved ones in the deadly attack on Binari community in Karim-Lamido Local Government Area on Friday, October 23.
In a condolence statement signed by its Chairman, Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’Adua, the forum said it was shocked by the killing of innocent worshippers, vigilantes, women and children shortly after Juma’at prayers.
Describing the incident as barbaric, the forum expressed solidarity with the bereaved families and the people of Taraba State over the tragic loss of lives.
The senators called on the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to urgently strengthen security operations in Karim-Lamido and along the River Benue corridor.
They specifically urged the security agencies to establish a Forward Operating Base and introduce intelligence-led patrols along the Kompany-Asusar route to improve security and forestall further attacks.
The forum also appealed to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and well-meaning individuals to provide immediate humanitarian assistance to victims of the attack.
It further called for a comprehensive investigation to ensure that those responsible for the killings are arrested and prosecuted.
Offering prayers for the affected community, the forum prayed that Allah (SWT) would forgive the deceased, grant them Al-Jannah Firdaus as martyrs, heal the injured, comfort the bereaved and restore lasting peace to Taraba State and Nigeria.
“Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un,” the statement added.
