Mustapha Sule Lamido, son of former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2027 general elections after receiving unanimous endorsement from party delegates across the 27 local government areas of the state.
The chairman of the Electoral Committee deployed by the PDP national headquarters, Barrister Isah Ahmed, announced that Lamido emerged as the party’s consensus candidate without opposition, as no other aspirant contested the ticket.
Ahmed explained that delegates across the state affirmed Lamido’s candidacy through a voice vote conducted under the supervision of the committee, after which he was officially declared the PDP governorship flag bearer for the 2027 election.
According to reports, the exercise followed extensive consultations and coordination among party stakeholders across Jigawa State, resulting in a smooth and peaceful consensus process.
Jigawa State PDP Chairman, Babandi Ibrahim, congratulated Lamido, party faithful, and supporters, praising the orderly and peaceful conduct of the primaries, which he described as successful and hitch-free.
Speaking after his emergence, Lamido said his nomination represents a fresh commitment to address what he described as worsening hardship, poor governance, and insensitive leadership in the state.
He noted that while the consensus arrangement demonstrated unity within the party, the major challenge ahead would be delivering effective governance to the people of Jigawa State.
“We are not here to complain; we are here to provide solutions,” he stated, while pledging to promote accountable leadership, restore competence in governance, and renew hope among citizens.
Lamido reiterated his plans to focus on youth empowerment, education, healthcare, economic development, and rebuilding institutions, describing his ambition as a collective effort aimed at rescuing and repositioning Jigawa State.
He also urged party members to remain united ahead of the 2027 polls, stressing that success at the election would require discipline, cooperation, and commitment from all stakeholders.
Addressing residents of the state, he said: “To the people of Jigawa, I understand your struggles and share your concerns. I ask for the opportunity to serve you”.
The PDP candidate further appreciated the national and state leadership of the party for ensuring a peaceful primary process and called on supporters to sustain the unity within the party as preparations continue for the governorship election.
