The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, has said that the people of the state, irrespective of political affiliation, are united in their commitment to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Renewed Hope agenda for the overall good of Nigeria.
The governor made this known on Friday during a New Year homage visit to the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, at his residence in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State as he used the occasion to restate the state’s backing for President Tinubu’s administration.
According to the governor, the visit was in keeping with tradition and also an opportunity to appreciate Senator Akpabio for his leadership and for representing Akwa Ibom with distinction at the national level.
“We pray that God grants you more wisdom as you continue to support President Tinubu, because your destinies are intertwined. We also want to assure you that we are firmly holding the fort at home for you.
“Akwa Ibom is united for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and Akwa Ibom is united for you, Chief Akpabio. Just four days ago, youths across the state organised a massive rally to endorse the President, yourself and my humble self.
“Across party lines, Akwa Ibom remains united. There may be minor disagreements, which are inevitable, but when you look at the bigger picture, you will see a state that is firmly united, especially as we look ahead to 2027,” Eno said.
The governor also praised Senator Akpabio for his New Year decision to withdraw all court cases against individuals who had defamed or slandered him, describing the move as a demonstration of strong character and exemplary leadership.
“That decision brought me great joy because it reflects true leadership. It also encourages pastors and religious leaders, showing that our leaders can listen, reflect and be inspired by positive counsel.
“As Mahatma Gandhi once said, forgiveness is not for the weak but for the strong. It takes strength to rise above hurt and let go of the past. I commend you for this noble act,” he added.
In his response, Senate President Godswill Akpabio thanked Governor Eno for his steadfast support for President Tinubu, noting that the success of the President is directly tied to the success of Nigeria.
“We stand firmly with you, just as we stand with President Tinubu. His reform agenda may be challenging, but it is yielding results. I appreciate your support for the President and for uniting the entire state behind him.
“Our focus is to ensure the President succeeds, because when he succeeds, Nigeria succeeds,” Akpabio said.
He expressed gratitude to Governor Eno for the New Year visit, quoting renowned writer Chinua Achebe to highlight the importance of unity and togetherness among leaders and the people.
“When we gather together in the moonlit village ground, it is not because of the moon. Everyone can see it in his own compound. We come together because it is good for kinsmen to do so,” he said, underscoring the prevailing harmony in Akwa Ibom State.
Akpabio further commended the governor for maintaining peace in the state and for his achievements in infrastructure development, project execution and human empowerment.
“I see happiness on the faces of Akwa Ibom people. The joy and unity you have brought to this state will endure beyond your tenure. Future generations will benefit from it. I wish you a happy New Year,” the Senate President added.
