It was a harvest of defectors as four senators of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) dumped their party and pitched their camp with the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) in the Senate.

Those who decamped are Senators Aminu Iya Abbas (Adamawa Central), Binos Yaro (Adamawa North), Ikira Bilbis (Zamfara Central) and Ipalibo Banigo (Rivers West).

In their separate letters of resignation of their membership of the PDP, they all alluded to the crisis in the party which has made it difficult for them to serve their constituents effectively.

Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, who read the letters of Yaro, Bilbis and Abbas at plenary on Tuesday, haven read Banigo’s the day before (Tuesday), said the intractable leadership crisis at the national level of the PDP has given the senators the constitutional rights as move from the PDP.

As usual, all the four senators joined the APC, which they said provides a better platform for them to contribute to the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu.

The Senate President Godswill Akpabio, as usual, used the opportunity to mock the opposition parties saying the “Umbrella has been shattered”.

He called on the Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele to “do the needful” to move the four senators from their seats on the opposition aisle to the majority side.

With the defection of these four PDP senators to the APC, the ruling party has 84 members while the PDP is now left with only 14 members.
