The Senate has rescinded its earlier decision to urge President Bola Tinubu to sack CAC Registrar General Hussaini Magaji (SAN) for failing to appear before its Committee on Finance to account for its 2025 budget performance and the 2026 proposal.
When the Registrar General honoured the invitation of the Senate Committee on Finance chaired by Senator Sani Musa Monday after sack threat on last Thursday, the CAC RG, who has serially ignored senate invitations was threatened with sack by the Committee over frustrations forestalling investigation into the financial activities of the Commission.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Committee Senator Sani Musa (Niger North) at the Monday hearing informed the RG and his management team that investigation of ministries and agencies of government a statutory responsibility of the parliament.
He said, his continued evasion of investigations of the Corporate Affairs Commission was in breach of the Constitution.
According to him, the Committee had resolved to send a memo to the presidency recommending his removal from office.
Responding, the RG, Hussaini Magaji (SAN) tendered his apology, stressing that he was unavoidably absent due to a journey he embarked to Lagos, regretted that his absence last week hasn’t deliberate.
“Mr. Chairman, distinguished members of the Committee, I hold the Committee in high regard and my absence was due to circumstances beyond my control.
“I sincerely apologise for not responding to the summons. I was actually coming from Lagos and I know it was late for me to meet up with the Senate invitation.
“I have a challenge in my office with the National Assembly with regards to communication gap which we are trying to address that.
In response, Senator Dicket Plang (Plateau Central) pleaded for a second chance, which he believed, he will achieve the necessary change and urged the Committee to accept his apology.
Also, the former Leader in the 9th Senate, Yahaya Abdullahi corroborated that the CAC RG should be forgiven, cautioning that ignoring lawmakers’ summon shouldn’t happen under any circumstances again.
The Chairman, Sani Musa then asked his colleagues through a motion moved by Senator Isah Jibrin (Kogi East) and seconded by Ned Nwoko (Delta North) and it was a unanimous approval of his apology.
